    Being an adult is so much better to me than being a kid, and I had a good childhood. Life can be good it’s just difficult to get there and, unfortunately because much of the world is shit, relies on a lot of luck.

      Just given how young people are treated socially and legally, you couldn’t pay me enough to go back. I’d rather deal with my adult problems than with the complete lack of all autonomy and basic human respect.

      That my family was awful just makes it more true.

        Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality (yes, that is a thing that actually exists) has a really vivid illustration to this.

        In that alternate universe, Harry is really smart and grew up with a normal, loving family, which leads to him “powering up” a lot faster compared to the original series. But throughout the book he still comments several times on how he can’t really rely on his parents or other adults listening to him because he’s still a 10 year old child, even though he’s in some areas more knowledgeable than them.

        It’s an exaggeration, of course, but it does capture part of reality
