We are just a bit past the halfway point in the season with most shows at 6 or 7 episodes through their run. Any shows surprise you this season? In a good way? A bad way? Watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes instead of anything modern? Let’s talk about it!

As always, remember to be mindful of spoilers. If you want to know more about how to handle spoilers in this community, check the guide here (also linked in the sidebar).

I’ve started watching a few more seasonal anime now that we’re halfway through:

    • Unnamed memory: was pretty fun, but the latest episode will need a damn good explanation, otherwise it just did a nosedive.
    • Konosuba S3: just good ol’ Konosuba. I meant to start watching it from the beginning of the season, but somehow didn’t.
    • Many Sides of Radio Voice Actor: surprisingly more fun than I thought it would be. I thought it’d be more idol-like, but not really.

My favourites if this season so far are:

    • Sound! Euphonium S3: despite the unfortunate lack of playing music, it’s still really good. Character drama is top notch.
    • Konosuba S3: it’s just so funny. Great comedy.

I’m also still watching JoJo Golden Wind. It’s pretty underwhelming to be honest. Not bad, but I’m not enjoying myself as much as the previous parts.

I am embarrassed to say I haven’t watched Hibike Euphonium before, despite playing a euphonium-adjacent brass instrument for years and years. I have watched some clips and the show is absolutely gorgeous.

I am not watching as many shows as I normally do this season. Here are some quick thoughts on each of them so far:

    • Konosuba - Top condition! This show has come back firing on all cylinders.
    • Appraisal Isekai - This has been a fine adaptation. I can’t say that it has done a lot to stand out in my opinion.
    • Level 2 Cheat Powers - Dramatic improvement after a painfully generic episode 1. Rys is probably my favorite wolf girl this season. Sorry Holo.
    • Loser Ranger - This show has really exceeded my expectations. I never really know what is coming next here.
    • 7th Prince - The adaptation has done a good job paying homage to the ridiculous artwork of the manga. I don’t remember liking the story much beyond this point in the manga, so the art will have to carry things.
    • Spice and Wolf - Things have moved pretty slowly in this show. I have enjoyed it, but can’t say it has been my most anticipated every week.
    • Bartender - Nice, gentle iyashikei about alcohol. If there is a larger story at work here, I haven’t picked up on it yet.

    Continuing from last season:

    • Tsukimichi - This current arc has been pretty slow. Looking forward to a more action-y finale coming up.
    • Delicious in Dungeon - Been lots of fun and I am sad that this is going away soon. Hoping that we don’t have to wait too long for a season 2 and end of the story.

Some things I will keep in reserve for my post next week is that I finished the first season of Apothecary Diaries. I really liked it, so look forward to more of my thoughts on that. After finishing it, I started watching “Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina” and have some thoughts on it so far. I should be done with the show by next week’s post.

    Weekly ranking roundup:

    1. Anime Corner - Full Results - Weekly Winner: Konosuba
    2. Anime Trending - Full Results - Weekly Winner: Date a Live V
    3. Reddit Karma - Weekly Winner: Mushoku Tensei

Credit to /u/Abysswatcherbel for making the chart for reddit karma and /u/Nooble5 for the Anime Trending chart.

The thing I noticed this week about the charts is Mysterious Disappearances is high on AT’s list at #4 while being way down at ~30 on the other two charts. I haven’t been watching it, but that is a pretty huge difference.

I just finished the “episode 0” and it was quite good. Definitely dropping us into the middle of the story as I understand it.

It did seem a bit shock porn-y though.

Well, I don’t know the answer to your question as I am unfamiliar with the source. However, trying to find out more about this caused me to discover that AniList only lists the movie versions of this series, and doesn’t have a page for the show. So, it isn’t something that is possible to request a discussion thread automatically via @rikka@ani.social.

I still want to keep discussion threads limited to being created by the bot, so if you (or anyone else reading this) want a discussion thread about the show, message me and let me know and I will create one manually.

The Anilist mods aren’t absolutely positively sure that the TV series isn’t going to be just the movies cut up into 24 minute episodes.

CR being weird about not announcing things the usual way is throwing them off.

        https://anilist.co/forum/thread/74026

MAL is saying that the TV is going to be the movies with additional scenes.

        https://myanimelist.net/news/71095177

With 2 movies at say 2 hours each, that’s about 4 hours, or 240 minutes of footage.

To make 18 episodes of 24 minutes that’s a total of 432 minutes.

They save 3 minutes per episode with the OP and ED, so for 18 episodes that’s 54 minutes.

So 432 - 240 - 54 = 138 minutes of actual new footage, not including cleaning up, different transitions, editing, etc.

That’s an average of 7m40s of new footage per episode

That’s quite a lot of new footage.

The closest comparison that I can remember is Demon Slayer Mugen Train, that first came out as a movie, then was split into 7 TV episodes.

The Mugen Train movie was 116 minutes, and 7 episodes x 24 minutes would be 168 minutes

168 - 116 = 52, subtract an additional 21 minutes for OP and ED, and there should have been about 32 minutes of additional footage

That was about 4m34s of new footage per episode.
