I went with Alpine Linux for hosting because of this. I like up how my light setup runs completely in RAM, saving the SD card for a while.

I forward my port to my bastion host, and reverse tunnel to it when I want to access my stuff.

My router allows you to set a device in the DMZ zone which will let you use your routers IP as its address.

To be honest, I have no preference, I just followed whatever order guide was on my crimper. Didn’t seem to matter.
