the family bit is key i think for needing a home server. some TVs you can do via BT to the phone.
but if you’re setting it up anyway for your family, then yeah, best to organize around the server.
good luck to you!

mate… ppl can change their minds. i did.
up to OP. i read it as “i wanted to go all in on Jellyfin, but it’s been a PITA. what else would you suggest?”
ppl will find a way. i’m on a Mudita Kompakt. XD
i listen on two devices: my phone and my PC.
depends on ppl’s use cases. a home media server is over-engineered solution for me, and perhaps others. but it’s good to stop for second and consider what one’s needs actually are.
that’s a great use case!
sure, then in your case, if you absolutely must have access to it all at one time, then home streaming makes sense.
for me, and i do imagine most ppl (tho i could be wrong!), it doesn’t make sense compared to just returning to local.
genius that i am, i only realized that AFTER i setup a jellyfin server on my home server for streaming my music. XD derp.
SD Card on my phone. i don’t stream it anymore. storage is so cheap now i can easily hold all of my flac files, no problem.
edit don’t look for solutions to problems you don’t have. most ppl don’t NEED to stream everything over the internet.
go back to local.
i just came into containerization recently and skipped Docker completely and went straight to podman. it’s been fantastic and integrates well with systemd. i would recommend anyone new to do the same.
since you’re not new, and are looking for something different, i would say do podman instead of docker.
i tried jellyfin for my music, but honestly, i just ended up putting all my flac files on an sd card on my phone. XD
it goes with me, no streaming needed. if i need to stream it to a particular device, i use a BT connection to the phone.
Gotcha, makes sense. Yeah my setup is very straightforward
Agreed. Quadlets and podman are amazing.
I hate docker compose and find that much more complicated. It’s a whole other structure that’s essentially unneeded.
But I started with podman and not docker, so that’s probably why
openSUSE MicroOS is amazing
Just want to chime in here to say I use containerized caddy as a reverse proxy with quadlets and did nothing special.
you got this! don’t give up!
thank you, i will try!
what GPU are you using, btw?
i’m starting to think it’s the debian base of this container image. it may just be too out of date for my GPU.
thanks! that seems in line with what i’m doing, though my container is rootful.
finally solved this issue!
