Last year I was bothered by the randomness of fonts even in single words and sentences, and started that font guide thing. Immediately afterwards I tried to plan a nicer looking frame for it that can fit more, and have it for this event if anyone wants that or cares.

I also want to get anyone’s opinions on changing letters to be better if you have ideas, because I’m sure I’m not the best at this but I want it to be appealing enough to use.

The main 2 things I tried to focus on is readability, and making sure each symbol can fit in 5x3 pixels.

it was actually a sign from someone with the username “scew” that was there before the blahaj got started. for a while the people from blahaj couldn’t decide between changing it or removing it, so it went through a lot of iterations, but it seems they deleted it entirely in the end.

a shame tbh, that they picked a spot someone else had already worked in, and couldn’t handle it being in the middle of their stuff.

what about a canvas that is online for way longer, like a couple of weeks, BUT it is read only except during peak user times, and/or the weekend.

give more time for attention and hype to build up, while still restricting the time people have to place pixels. it would also give people who want to place as many pixels as possible and make bigger projects have time to go outside and touch grass, as well as use the 6/6 pixel stacking.

Weirdly shaped canvas yes, weirdly shaped pixels no, in my opinion. Not until I have a computer with hexagon pixels.

Doing a theme each year with an appropriately shaped canvas would make each year feel distinct

I think you’d have to find the bronies if you wanna know who had the most pixels. They were there from the first minute to the last afaik. I don’t even know what community they are from on lemmy… Or wherever.

It’s just for pixel art/writing though. I used to use it in minecraft a lot.

I’ve had zero trouble with people griefing anything I’ve put down. were you trying to start making something in the middle of someone else’s project?

the rules also explicitly say alts are generally ok as long as it’s good natured. if you think someone is using multiple accounts to mess with what you want to make for no reason but to be rude, you should report them. shift click or longpress their pixels and you should see a report button

lots of the letters are pretty similar, but they are, in my experience, still pretty easy to tell apart when reading. Trying to get them all the same size did make it hard to make them as individual as I might have liked, but I think it has advantages.

i tried making the center of the J down the right side, but it looked lopsided… I didn’t like it.

if you have a better idea for J I’d like to see it (this reads as snarky but it’s genuine lol. I really would like to improve this if possible).

I started the “hello” and I didn’t know what it was gunna be when I started. I was bored and doing whatever as my pixels were available. Other people started adding stuff and I like it a lot now :D
