I found it too complicated compared to OMV. But it’s a good option.

Any reason why you want to change from OMV. It’s not perfect but my go to media server.
I have a 2015 Lexus. I really want to upgrade but nothing new is as good. Plus everyone has an SUV fetish and I prefer saloons.
The new Toyotas aren’t as reliable as before. Slowly getting worse. Which is a shame.
Debian is good choice. Another option could be open media vault. Which is Debian with a built in web interface.
I really love the idea of Nix. But not a fan of the scripting language.
I do need to test it more.
I do find it hard to update though. I’m not sure if they have released a GUI based interface to make it easier.

You can run it on two servers at once. I have WireGuard running on my router (which can’t give full speed) and my server (which can run at full speed). Also running on another machine for fun.
I need to sync pictures from iPhone to server. What should I use?

I use OpenMediaVault to run something similar. It’s a headless Debian distribution with web based config. Takes a bit of work but I like it.

PFC is in the power supply. The bios doesn’t control it. Only servers may have this control.
Try running some equipment that needs extra load from the UPS. TV? Gaming system? Again could just be an issue with the UPS.

Some systems just need a pure sine wave UPS. Especially high grade server hardware. But test the UPS with other computers, it could just be faulty.

Try Emby. Hardware acceleration works out of the box. It is paid though but I’m very happy with it for past few years.

I have similar setup but without PROXMOX. I tried it but never saw the benefit. Using ZFS for bitrot protection.
Syncthing isnt a backup. Its just a synchronisation tool. If you delete a file it gets deleted everywhere.

What’s the alternative?

CasaOS looks interesting. But i prefer OpenMediaVault for the moment.

Things are easy or free. Rarely both. :) it’s well worth learning OMV. If you have any questions I’ll try to help!

I run OMV baremetal for last few years. I really like it. I did try TrueNAS and found it too convoluted.
Nextcloud is a totally different beast that would run on top of either.
OMV allows you to use ZFS as well if you want (I do) but also the flexibility to use other raid systems.
I just wish they’d left in portainer as default. No point reinventing the docker wheel…
How do you find dockge over portainer? I tried it but it uses more resources and i couldn’t individually start/stop apps in a stack. It was all or nothing.
