Running 2x ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro M.2 NVMe, 500Gb for OS and VMs and a 2Tb for games and documents.
I figured it was worth the gamble on this cheaper brand since everything important is synched/baked up to my server.
AAANNNDD that server is synched to my old NAS.
I’ve been running a couple ADATA Nvme drives since 2019. No issues and they’re fast.
Replace “build” with “buy” if you want.
Even a used ex-business desktop would be faster and cheaper.
Build a basic i5 desktop.
It’ll cost less, be much faster and easier to upgrade; the “NAS” platform is so overrated.
I jumped on the NAS bandwagon about 10yrs ago and it really didn’t take that long before I’d reached the limits of the CPU and RAM.
Last year I built an i5 system to replace it and it’s just better. Hardware and softwareb updates are just easier with a desktop. I can run my web server, torrent VM, DB, Plex and file sharing with resources to spare.
If you simply want a device to store/share files, get a NAS, but the second you want to do anything more, build a basic desktop.
Oh and it’s cheaper!
What’s the difference between never connecting your phone to a brand new high tech car and having no tech in an older car?
How big? Might be easier to dump it on an external HDD and just share it around.
