basically everything science saru touches turns to gold and this oozes style. i don’t think it’s really meant to capture the overall vibe.

So in the animation shown so far, the art style isn’t quite like the Manga. But it is almost exactly like the FMVs from the old PlayStation game.

And if this show turns out to be an adaptation of the game’s plot I am going to squeal like a little girl!

Yeah, I know what you mean. Personally I think a bit of lewdness should be expected by anyone who is familiar with the source material and Shirow Masamune. After all, this is a guy who has spent a big part of his career drawing semi-erotic illustrations, so it’s fine for GitS to be at least a little bit sexy.

I think things like this, He-Man, and a handful of other titles should lean into it. Its part of their roots and its fine to see massive muscular dudes and unrealistic tits every so often, just not when its all there is everywhere.

As a fan of both Ghost in the Shell and Science Saru, I really hope this is good.

GitS is one of those series where I don’t feel like there’s a perfect or definitive version–each manga, movie and show has its own strengths and weaknesses on display, and they all indirectly contribute to a bigger picture of what the world and characters are all about.

My hope and expectation for this new show is simply that it adds its own contribution while doing justice to the characters, exploring the series’ themes as they relate to today, and telling an interesting story that’s fun to watch.

The same thing can be said of Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy. Each version adds to the Canon in different ways.

I don’t think they understand where the phrase comes from, since they’re drawing literal shells in…

Also, really heavy focus on Bewbs, which is rarely a good sign for a reboot.

Not that the original was exactly chaste, but the hyper realism gave the art a certain hard boiled grittiness. Nothing about this character looks ex-military.

I’m not 100% sold on the look yet myself, but to be fair, I think they’re really at least trying to channel the look of the original manga by Shirow Masamune, which I think had a lot more cartooniness and eroticism in it than what was depicted in Oshii’s movies or Kamiyama’s series.

It’s not as well executed in my opinion, but I’d say they’re going for something along the lines of

Yeah, Shirow was basically a porn artist across his collected works. I feel like this new art channels the original manga pretty well.

The original artist was clearly a thigh man, can always trust a thigh man.

Speaking of differences in style, every iteration of Birdy the Mighty has been so different from the original 90s OVA where she was such a badass.
