You’ve got to respect their ability to make characters interesting to watch despite some of them showing nearly no emotions.
And similarly, action packed fight scenes where everybody is calm and focused.
But I think they did Fern a little dirty here. She should have beaten that guy without having to wait for the fog to clear.
The magical fog was also the demon’s personal mana radar. If Fern had used magic to fly up to the moon, the demon’s tracking mana missiles would have shot her down.
Once the fog was dispersed by Methode, Fern was able to conceal her mana by flying outside of the demon’s detection range, visually hiding herself in the moon’s light and blast him from orbit.
Good thing it was a full moon that night.
Why didn’t the demon detect Fern’s mana use while she was flying into the moon and shoot her down then?
Hey, don’t question the drama.
Fern is an example of Methode’s “mages who only study killing magic who wouldn’t make it out of here alive” because she hasn’t studied much else besides Zoltraak.
Methode recognizing the bad matchups and helping Fern was great though.
And why was Frieren hovering above, smirking and watching like an asshole while her allies and pupil were in mortal danger?
Her OP-ness would have made easy work of those two demons, and then where would the drama come from?
Her experience told her that Fern and Methode were more than capable of handling that, kind of in the same way they left Stark behind with much of a second thought. Frieren rarely shows her power, pretty much the only time she had to was when fighting against her mirror image.
Also she probably had the ability to watch through the fog an intervene at any point if thing went wrong, she’s just that OP.
Oh okay, so level up the junior party members.
Got it!
Making side characters interesting is an art form. In Frieren most of them feel like they are fleshed out so much that there have to be their own show somewhere and we just don’t know about it.
She could not see him from that distance with a fog. I was looking forward towards close combat. Fern just spawnkilled him from base
