    Last episode of the season, and they’re just over halfway through the race. And to rub it in they ended with the announcer summing up that there’s no way to know who’s going to win the race, and “I wouldn’t risk missing this climax.”

    Right. So be sure to tune in… in about two years.

        That’s my thought too.

        There’s no way they could complete even the current year’s races in just one more season of the anime, and from what I’ve gathered, the manga covered at least two years of racing. So they’ve effectively announced that the anime is going to end without telling the whole story. Which also likely means no payoff for Kanata and Ren, or for the search for the shrine.

        Initial D, by contrast, went through at least four or five races and love affairs for Takumi, Itsuki and Iketani in a single season.

        The animation, and most obviously the detail of the cars and the racing, has been very good in this, and that’s a very impressive and welcome improvement for the franchise. But it’s not enough to make up for the glacial pacing.
