Mid-season update: these are the anime that I’m still following:
Sequels
- Saga of Tanya the Evil
- You and I are Polar Opposites
- The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You
- Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
These are all so high-quality and entertaining, showing why they are worthy of having sequels. Undoubtedly peak.
New Releases
The Ghost in the Shell - (Disclaimer: this is my first experience with Ghost in the Shell.) I wish that the main / overarching plot would advance. So far, all I am seeing is the police’s counter-terrorist unit going around fighting crime. Maybe the big reveal will show that all these crimes are in fact connected, but if that’s the case, it would nice if they can at least tease at the underlying conspiracy. Otherwise, it’s getting kind of boring.
BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA - Most underrated / underwatched anime of the season (fewer than 7000 followers on AniList; Mushoku Tensei has more than 135,000 for comparison). It has a proper story / drama that I enjoy following. I must say, if the main characters are smarter or wiser, the drama could have been better navigated. But I am willing to close one eye on account of the fact that they are simply teen (i.e. underaged / immature) girls.
Chainsmoker Cat - It started as a quite a shitpost but has been revealing its depth gradually. It gets kind of political but there’s clearly systemic discrimination against the beastfolk. The rampant addiction is just a symptom of the unjust society. I’m interested to see how all these pan out.
Draw This Then Die - Second most underrated / underwatched anime of the season (fewer than 9000 followers on AniList). Not surprising since it is yet another cute-girl-doing-cute-things slice-of-life - which is a pity given how good it has been thus far. This anime is basically Shirobako but for manga. I’d highly recommend following this anime to learn more about the manga-making process; I imagine many of you read manga too.
Kamui - He’s behind you - I’ve stopped following the manga for a while and have forgotten how funny it gets. It’s not as high quality as the rest of the anime I am following, but the comedy is hitting for me. Note that it gets very sexual - at least on the same level as Gushing over Magical Girls - so I’d say it’s not for everyone.
The Cat and the Dragon - Very cute and healing slice-of-life where we follow cats. There is more world-building than I expected; we see how the human kingdom is getting shaped by the cats.
Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia - It is taking its time cooking. I wish its pace would quicken and bring us the exciting bits.
Goodbye, Lara - I don’t normally like slow-burn but this one managed to keep me hooked. Nothing is really happening just yet, but it’s clearly building up towards something. Things are likely not what it seems; there has to be a conspiracy. It’s somewhat of a suspense in a way.
