At this point in time, the Summer seasonal shows have mostly wrapped up and the Fall shows are getting started. So, I wanted to hear your thoughts on shows you watched this season. Shows you liked, disliked, were surprised by, disappointed by? Let those opinions rip!

Summer 2026 is a Bandori season for me, as I watched BanG Dream! Yumemita and Ganso! BanG Dream Chan. I’m generally very happy with Yumemita. As far as band dynamics go, it’s very constructive and funny and I love how its writing balances the specialties of the original three seasons (pure CGDCT) and AveMyGo (serious drama). Viola is also a standout villain.
The last episode of Ganso will be out in a few days. Although each episode is a minute long, there are way more hits than misses and can be downright hilarious. The only issue is the high barrier of entry to get all of the jokes. It’s highly recommended that one has watched all of the main TV seasons first.
Now that I’ve finished Yumemita, I’m watching 20th Century Electricity Catalog (I stand by using this versus “Sparks of Tomorrow”—personal preference). As a standalone series from zero context, it’s hilarious with the usual Kyoani finish, more or less. I’m up to Episode 12 yet, and knowing (but haven’t read) the background behind the source material, I feel that the anime should have been more faithful to it. The way the chemistry ended up between Kihachi and Inako, with their VAs, makes me think a straightforward romance between the two of them would make for a better anime.
Edit: I finally finished NIjusseiki: A less-technically skilled studio with this exact story would likely be rated much lower, maybe a 5 or 6. I rated it an 8. Aside from the storywriting, everything else is done with rigor and love: the world around it, the VAs, the comedy, the animation in general. KyoAni’s diversions from the source material is of a high risk, high reward type. If it works (Sound Euphonium especially towards the end of S3), it works spectacularly. If not, we get something like this.
