Exceptional show. Definitely one of those very rare examples of a show that will stay with me and that I will think about in random moments for years to come.

This was really something special, even though the ending wasn’t anything grand; it’s quite clear that this is an abridged version. But even so, every episode impressed me with how real and raw it was, and the character interactions were unlike any others I’ve seen in anime. I’m going to miss this. And I’ll definitely reach for the manga for more. 10/10

What an incredible anime. I honestly don’t know what else to say, it’s just that good. Definitely best of season and already a likely contender for AOTY.

I hope the manga gets an official translation. I’m really curious about that version and although I can sail the seven seas for it, I want to support the mangaka who wrote this.

That seemed a bit frantic - like they had a few too many things they were trying to cram into a single episode - but it was still beautiful and it was all important, so I guess that’s the way it goes. And I’ll rewatch the entire series soon (and undoubtedly more than once) and see then how well it all flows - it’s possible that watched straight through, the pacing has its own meaning.

I need to let this settle a bit - rewatch it and just sort of wait and see. It’s definitely near the top of my all-time favorite list and it might just be at the top. In any event, it was very, very good from start to finish, and my life has been enriched by experiencing it.

Adapting the whole story in 13 episodes was out of the question, so they had to find a good place where to stop. Hope they get a season 2 so they can complete it.

Thanks for the clarification. That was my assumption, but I didn’t know.

I hadn’t really stopped to think about it until just now, but with pretty much any other series, I probably would’ve at least browsed the manga fairly early on, just to get an idea of how the adaptation compares. But with this, it’s not even that I chose not to - I never even considered the possibility. This has been such a rewarding watch that I’ve been entirely focused on it, and I just want more.

That said, I expect I’ll read the manga somewhere along the way, but only after watching the adaptation all the way through.

That SMS interaction is soooo real.
Comrades know I keep my calisthenics accounts separate from work, from my personal, etc…
Heck !fgc@lemmy.world still wants to hound me for having “smurf” accounts, when I specifically told them to have nuance with such accusations.

So far, the episode titles all have some deeper meanings, but this one - “Morning is Here” - is just a pun isn’t it? Since “Asa” sounds the same as “morning” in japanese.

that acting when you know it's futile is what makes it so precious.

I’m glad that Makio acknowledges the value of trying to change others (presumably for the better) even if it is difficult.

This may be just my selfish view but people’s capacity to change is what gives me hope for the world. Otherwise, the alternative is to never accept others with different views, resulting in a more polarised world that’s a net negative for everyone.

Plus, it can lead to heartwarming stories like like:

    off-topic; somewhat political

    Just plain old Larry

But being disliked for your work is totally different.

Looks like pretty much all (most?) professions that involve creating something face this same challenge. If you enter the phrase “you are not your code” into a search engine, you can see plenty of articles about how this is a very common issue among programmers.
