Is this anime a recommendation for someone who grew up with Toonami anime and likes Frieren?
I‘m pleased and astonished we’re getting such a high quality adaptation of this. It was definitely worth the wait. Some of the keyframes especially are absolutely stunning. As for the episode itself, this is the first big turning point for Coco and the director did a really good job of putting some weight on some key emotional points.
I really love the art parallel’s this manga wears on it’s sleeve. The fact that Coco’s solution to being inadequate compared to others is to embrace the parts of her that make her “unique” and do what she knows in a new and creative way is so apt to the artistic process.

I haven’t read the manga in a while but IIRC these parallels continue with future arcs. Very fun to see how the later stuff is adapted.
Again, I love how much they added “between the pages”. All those little details elevate this adaptation so much from the source which was already a visual masterpiece. For example this entire scene with remembering herself growing up learning and the memory of her mother guiding her is added inbetween just these few frames:

And this one here made me laugh:

We also see why I am of the opinion that Agott is deeply and inherently evil and should not be allowed to exist as a witch.
Just like Frieren this might be the perfect adaptation.
Yes, I think the entire fight scene with the beast in the last episode of Frieren was also just a single frame in the manga.
A little detail most people probably didn’t think about but I’ll point out how well thought out witch clothes are. In behind the scenes footage we got to see they made a real life version of witch clothes. Now we know why it was necessary.
The attention to detail is insane.Where’s the Behind the Scenes footage? That sounds cool!
Thanks!
THEY CUT THE VOID TOILET, MY DISSAPOINTMENT IS OMMEASURABLE AND MY DAY IS RUINED.
It will show up, eventually. I wouldn’t be surprised if they move it to the start of the next episode as a gag.
I’m hoping it just got moved over to another episode for pacing reasons.
Could be in the director’s cut.
